Mar Hobby has FOAM TAC GLUE

Unread post by retiredVTT » Fri Mar 11, 2011 1:39 am

Awhile back I ordered in some Foam Tac Glue from 2dogRC in the US. It is advertised as having been developed with Depron in mind. I have been pleased at the results. You apply it, put the two pieces together, separate them, wait a couple minutes, and then put them back together and they're stuck. Sort of a contact adhesive.

I have also applied the glue and assembled the pieces...it still works, but takes longer.

Today I found it in stock at Maritime Hobby, I was pleasantly surprised. Cost is around $6.25 for a 4oz bottle.

While I looked around I spotted several BP products like $17.00 motors and $19.00 esc's as well as some Turnigy lipo packs so it's nice to see that "electric goodies" are showing up on the MH wall. Thanks John..!

A shipment of carbon fiber rods and flats is expected next week, and I was told last week that EPP and Depron will be restocked, but I forgot to verify that today.

Thanks Bill.
I picked some up today. It's also good for CF and most of the other stuff we glue together to make things that fly.
I'll bring my other purchase to PRCC this evening.

So far I'm a fan of FOAM-TAC when used with Depron and carbon fiber. I'm assembling an Aero-Cat (from Model-Aero) and even made up some depron "butt joint" samples to test the strength of this glue. Very strong butt joints. The only place I'm going to use epoxy will be on the ply motor mount.

Bill,

My attempts are not as good as yours...

I've tried a few different ways but find they are not stong enough as compared to my favorite......GWS glue. I've tried it as contact adhesive, straight glue, as directed on the bottle and as described on the RC Groups threads. It does work but for me, I havent found that ' right' way to apply it to get the results you and others have described. I find it is very similar to the "Ultimate Airplane glue" that I have had similar results with.

I wish BSI CA was a bit less pricey as I use "ALOT' of it !

BP Hobbies used to sell the GWS glue tubes individually....now they sell it in an accessory kit....??

Get your CA from HK. Same stuff as BSI (same bottles anyway) and only 1/3 the price.
