BBQ #4 - September 28, 2019

Unread post by bdg » Sun Sep 22, 2019 7:46 pm

Well... summer is officially past (at least according to the calendar!) and that means that Autumn has started!! Still some of the best flying of the year with cooler, crisp and more comfortable mornings.

Accordingly, we are gearing up for another BBQ! Come celebrate autumn with your friends at HEFA! This is scheduled for next weekend... Saturday, with a raindate for Sunday. Fingers crossed that the weather will be fine!!

Standard fare.... hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, pop, water are all planned. There is no cost for this event but any donations will be appreciated to defray costs.

Duster is Ken who mostly flys in Truro but graces us with his presence once in a while :-) Not sure how your post ended up coming from him Ivan!

I received an email from Cato reminding us of the Zone AGM in Truro at 1pm on Saturday 28th . This clashes with our Barbecue.
If we leave for Truro at noon we could make the meeting. Alternatively, could the Barbecue be changed to Sunday?

The forecast for Saturday currently looks much better than Sunday.... Sunday with showers in the morning. That said, as we all know, this is a long ways off and the forecast could change many times.

I agree that meeting is a relatively short distance away and that leaving by noon, or slightly before, will allow for participation. It is also great that you are able to participate... and we certainly encourage others to join you in participating.

I think that we should proceed with Saturday and get things started by 10am or so and therefore finishing up at a "reasonable" time.

Sounds like a plan?

We cannot be everywhere at the same time, so the barbecue will be the place to be.
As it happens, the winds are perfect for the slope at Lawrencetown, but it would have been difficult to have predicted this, which would have been perfect for the Slopefest.
MAAC may seem a distant and somewhat irrelevant entity to most of our guys, but remember that without MAAC and their forceful lobbying of Transport Canada, we would have been in a horrible flying situation. When you consider the input of people like Cato Hansen and the other MAAC representatives, we have much to thank them for what they are doing.
We should have a HEFA presence at the Zone AGM . I plan on leaving at noon, after the barbecue. I will leave my big sailplanes at home and thus will have room for three people to travel to the AGM. If anyone wants to go give me a shout at the field.

Excellent turnout of around twenty flyers today for HEFA BBQ #4 of 2019; really appreciate whoever was in control of the weather, you could not have done better. Low winds and clear, sunny skies.
Many thanks to Chef Bob and organizer Brian for another great event; the myth that "food" brings out members is no longer a myth..!
