Question

Unread post by the-mailman » Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:12 pm

Has anyone dealt with https://www.modelaviationproducts.com/? I need a few sheets of lite ply and this shop in Manitoba seems to be the only place in Canada that has any.

Hi Bruce, ...I have not dealt with this website, but it's impressive and lead me to another site that produces laser cut kits; so I emailed that site last night for a price on a 1/5 scale De-Haviland Buffalo kit and he came right back this morning with a price. (big price)! Anyway I would think the first site is legit ..but just in case use Paypal or at least a CC in case reimbursement is necessary.

Hey Bill.

1/4" Lite ply in stock. Thinner appears to be all sold out.

How much do you need and what thickness? The Hoarding Hobbies Workshop may have some to loan.

Yes, it's hard to find. This site doesn't have the lengths I need. Great Hobbies have it on sale, but no stock either. I'm looking for 6 sheets of 1/8 x 12 x 36 and 1 sheet of 1/32 x 12 x 48. I can get it from Balsa USA or Midwest, but they want $100 US for shipping and I'd probably get burned at the border with duty. I'll probably give Model Aviation Products a try if Great Hobbies don't get any soon. Prices are the same as the US, but in Canadian dollars and shipping is only $40. Building a couple of new boats and there's no rush as I have all winter to get them done.

This place in Quebec has the regular aircraft ply...but in limited sizes.

Bruce,

Hobby Wholesale (https://hobbywholesale.com/) has some plywood in stock but not quite in the dimensions that you are seeking...

I'll bet that shipping for the 48" long will add-up, even though the weight is very low.

Great idea Bill. I was looking for some small plywood a week or so ago and their inventory then was pretty much nil... but good to inquire for sure!

Haven't checked MSC recently, but the last time I was in they only had a few pieces of balsa.

Maybe try looking into Robert Bury (Burnside) , I have bought baltic birch ply in different thickness for planes and cabinets , 4'x8' or 5'x5' sheets. Might have something for your looking for.
