JKAerotech Mig 3 build

Unread post by AndrewS » Mon Sep 23, 2013 4:20 pm

Hi guys,
I started on building my combat Mig today.
Step 1 was cut the tail feathers free of the chloroplast sheet. Wasn't too hard as they were mostly cut through from the store. Then you cut just the bottom surface of the horizontal stab and remove one rib. This makes the hinge for the elevator. Then insert the horizontal stab into the vertical stab and glue using Goop or thick ca(I didn't have any goop).
I spray glued the fire wall pattern to the supplied wood and cut it out with my bandsaw.
I then tack glued it to the front of the fuselage.
That's it so far. I'll update as I go.

Andrew

Thanks for doing this build log, Andrew. Looks good so far!

What thickness of coroplast are the tail feathers? Looks like it might be 3 mm, which I really wish was available to us here in the Maritimes!

Actually Vic, it's 4mm.
Have to pick up a roll of fibre tape tomorrow.

Andrew, I saw 3/4" fibre strapping tape at CTC, Bedford, last week...

Andrew,

If you're looking for the wider strapping tape, I would suggest the 2" wide 3M rolls available at Staples. They are more expensive than most, but the quality is top notch and it applies beautifully. I use it exclusively on my slope-soaring warbird foamies.

Bill, Vic thanks for the tape info. I'll probably get some of both sizes.

How is this build going. How did you like ordering from JKA?
