Another EPP F-117

Unread post by karlpenney » Mon Sep 12, 2011 12:30 pm

I've had the F-117 on my build list for a while now so I decided to cut out the parts for it. It's using the same plan as the kit that schooner put together last summer in this other thread

I always print my plans on plain paper and then spray glue them to poster board. I cut these out, pin them to the foam and use a single edge razor blade to cut the parts out.

Karl,
Mine was also built from the Motorhead plans. I was careful about the tail angle, it's important to the look of the aircraft, and I found some pix online, but also found a model on Google Sketchup that let me fit it exactly. Despite some pretty hard use, the tail is still intact. The nose took a good one. I look forward to seeing yours.

Got a link to the Sketchup model? The angle of the tail fins is not specified in the plans. Looks to be somewhere between 25 and 30 degrees.

I just googled it and I think this is the one:

If not, it may be at home, but there are several in the Google warehouse. Or, if you want something perfect, you can have mine as a prototype. :)

Just a little bit of progress on this so far. Got the wing halves joined together with Stik'N Seal.
wingjoined.jpg
Getting ready to cut slots for the spars, one 4mm tube across the wing and two 1x6mm strips in the tail section. I cut the slots with a Dremel using the 565 cutting guide.

Spars installed (Stik'N Seal again) and prop slot cut out.

Now trying to figure out how to bevel the edges of all the fuse parts to make them fit properly. Too many angles!

Nobody else building anything this weekend? I didn't feel too ambitious either, but I did get a bit more done on the F-117.

I installed the motor mount doubler and plastic tube motor mount in front of the prop slot.

The elevons were cut in and attached with Welders glue. I installed some 1x3mm carbon reinforcement strips along the wing edges. They are set in a slot 1/2" from the edge.

I started the fuse with the two rear pieces.

The two main side pieces were then connected.

I let the glue dry for a while on those and then attached the front and top pieces. Once everything is dry I will trim the edges to make them all flush.
