DX7s Throttle Kill Swtich

Unread post by Beavertail » Mon Mar 18, 2019 8:22 am

Hi all,
Unfortunately at some point during my trip to Texas my throttle kill switch got broken off, Horizon doesn't carry or support replacement parts (what i was told at the hobby shop here in London). Any ideas as to where or how I can fix my switch?

Thanks!
Gary

Hey Gary,

Well done with this year's plane. Looked good.
Most of the switches on our transmitters are pretty generic. I replaced a 2 position on my old dx6i with a Futaba switch. I don't remember what the number was, but if your LHS sells Futaba as well as Spektrum they should be able to get you a switch to fit the 7s.

There is the obvious route of sending the radio into Horizon for service.

Hi Andrew!
Thanks! Really happy with how the plane flew this year as well! cant wait for next year!

I see, I will look into Futaba switches as well. Is it ridiculously expensive and time consuming to send the radio in to service?

Thanks! Gary

Gary,
Not sure about time...what I've read for Txs from the states seems to be a week or three round trip(goes to Champaign, Il). Cost may only be shipping one way. Horizon seems very good at the customer relations regarding repair of stuff even out of warranty.

No guarantees for cost or time as this is not from personal experience, just based on what I have read on RCG.

You have to contact Horizon for a return authorization number: https://www.horizonhobby.com/content/se ... ice-center

Someone on RC Groups did the hard work and found them on Digi-Key among the 23,416 toggle switches that they sell :-)

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthr ... t-Switches

https://www.digikey.ca/products/en?keywords=360-3388-ND

Digi-Key has flat rate shipping of $8.00 per order or free shipping over $100. They ship via FedEX and it comes from Manitoba and you will get it in 2 days with no extra fees.

I you are not in a rush Gary I can add it to my next order which is likely to be in the next couple of weeks and then send it to you. Otherwise if you want to order it yourself then get at least two of those and maybe one each of the two other types :-)

It shouldn't be too difficult to replace it yourself just make sure you have access to a decent soldering station.

Email the link for the digikey switch to Jentronics, info@jentronics.ca. They usually have everything I'm ever looking for at similar prices. They're in Burnside at 15 Weston Ct.

OOF I wonder how many switches he went through to find this one.... Aha!

I'll see if I can sneak one in through work as we order digikey sometimes but if not I'll let you know Thanks Rick!

Oh nice! I remember (and this was wayyyy back) I didn't hear good things about horizon and sending radios in. But they must have gotten better with how big they got as well! I'll keep this in mind for if all else fails!
