See Spektrum's new DSMX frequency agile system

The DX8 is user upgradable via software update.

I was wondering what Spectrum was going to do about the agility issue that some are concerned about. Good to know that DSM2 will still work with it if i decide to upgrade.

Just picked up my DX8 Friday, updated it to v2.00 and it now gives the option to select DSMX or DSM2. Now just need to pick up a DSMX receiver to see how well it works.

Don't be disappointed if you don't see any differance with the latest system as it appears to have been adopted to correct problems that MAY arise when 100 Spektrum systems are being operated as once.

..from the Spektrum release:

"The difference a DSMX system makes is only apparent when hundreds of 2.4GHz systems are in use at once.* DSM2 users who rarely, if ever, fly in big events or other exceptionally "noisy" 2.4GHz environments may find the DSM2 equipment they have now is all they will ever need. "

...nothing wrong in having the latest upgrade though..!

It's still way better than the 72mhz channels
That we all had, Freq boards, sharing channels
And drop outs by the generating station :(

I have been considering making the jump to 2.4, but still not decided on the manufacturer yet.

Even on 72 still, no issue with the frequency board as there are only 2 -3 of the 72 users left at Shannon. I have never had an issue with dropout or glitching on any Dual Conversion at any field over many years of flying. It did seem that people were having issues with single conversion (cheap) receversat SP but for me, I only have those (GWS type) in my small profile foamies with no issues given that I fly them in close.

For me, I havent had any issue to make the change yet but not being able to fly the BNF models, I may at least get an appropriate spectrum module

From my reading, the new DSMX was designed for large contest events, as they were having issues with the 40 transmitter limit in the DSM2( after about 50, people were getting shut out).
DSMX is backwards compatible with DSM2, but to those of us who still have some of the original DSM ar6000 receivers...DSMX WON'T work with them. The DSMX system doesn't speak DSM.

So as Spektrum and Horizon have said...if you aren't flying in large contest environments or in an area with alot of 2.4 noise you don't really need the upgrade. In regular club flying the 2 systems are essentially the same.

Steve, I am happy with my Spektrum systems, having had DSM(DX6)and 2 DSM2s( DX6i and my JR9303) and have had no problems. I recommend them.

RC Model Reviews has a Spektrum DSMX Review on their website. Two thumbs up.
