HEFA AGM (Dec 19, 2023) - Highlights

Unread post by chodgkinson » Wed Dec 20, 2023 8:08 pm

Thank you everyone for a great AGM last evening. Lots of good conversation about some important topics. The meeting minutes will be available to any HEFA member on request shortly. In the meantime there are a couple of key decisions from the meeting that we'd like to share with you now:

1) With the loss of our field at Shannon Park last year, ASRCM graciously offered HEFA members the opportunity to fly at their field in Shubenacadie this past summer. What a great flying field! Many of our members were able to get out and enjoy the benefits of the wide open spaces offered by this site. This year, rather than continuing on as guests of ASRCM, it was decided that the HEFA and ASRCM clubs will permanently join together to become one club and fly at the Shubenacadie field.

There are a lot of details to work out to complete the merger of HEFA and ASRCM but we expect it will all be finalized over the next few months so that we are ready for the start of flying in the spring. Stay tuned for more details.

2) The cost of maintaining the new flying site will be higher than it has been in previous years at Shannon Park. As a result we will be increasing the annual club membership dues to:

Single/Family member = $100
Junior member (18 and under) = FREE

3) Your club executive team for 2024 will be:

President - Brian Gray
Vice President - Chris Hodgkinson
Secretary - Josh Mardling
Treasurer - Rhoady Hickey
Directors-at-Large - Paul McKiel, Blair Squires, Rick MacDonald

We're looking forward to an exciting new year and some great times at our new flying site.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns,

The Executive Team

There was a question raised at the AGM about the location of the field. It is likely easiest to use Google for directions but in general, from Halifax, you would take the 102 Highway North. I'd recommend using exit 9 and taking the second exit at the roundabout. The large green dome will be on your right.

After that, take the first right as you pass the bridge. If you reach the wildlife park, then you have gone too far.

Turn left on St. Andrew's River Road.

Then turn left onto Lynch Road. Travel to the end and take the right up the hill to the field.

This is the overview:

Pretty easy once you have done it a few times!!!

What is it that I am seeing? Positive temperatures are finally coming? At least there is a glimmer of hope for the upcoming flying season!?!?

It is with that thought that we wanted to provide a quick update. We have been working behind the scenes to advance with our planning. A few items completed:
  • Revised bank account to align with current Directors.
  • Coordination and planning with Registry of Joint Stocks (RJSC) for a plan forward with options as an Association or Society.
  • Further discussions and coordination for amalgamation of clubs.
Our plan is to have everything sorted out shortly and we'll be able to reschedule the Special Meeting of HEFA members to address the necessary steps to complete the process.

A reminder that our membership application link is active at this URL: https://www.halifaxelectricflyers.com/F ... =30#p28504

We are hoping that the roadway will be dry enough for even a small vehicle to make it up the hill in the upcoming weeks! Get ready for some fun, smiles and comradery as we move into the spring!!!

Brian
