2021 Lawrencetown Slope-fest?

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if the Lawrencetown slope-fest may go ahead this year? I would really like to attend! Even if it's less structured than it has been in the past, it sure would be fun to get a bunch of people, a BBQ and some food up there for a solid day of flying in free lift.

Any thoughts or perspectives on this?

Josh - This certainly becomes more possible now with Nova Scotia moving further into the higher "normal" phases and with the associated easing of gathering restrictions. There have been some preliminary conversations from some people to revive this very popular event. The last that I'd heard, dates were being considered with that group. From a club perspective, we need a club champion to coordinate the event (before / during) and HEFA can commence the steps to request that this be a sanctioned event through MAAC. Our approval for the slope area with NS currently expires September 8 so that renewal, too, is on the list.

I would be happy to help if there is anything I can do.
I would even be happy for the event to be rather scaled down for this year; just a day or two days designated for it and perhaps a BBQ on site! It seems to me it would be better to have something, even in a limited scope, than nothing at all! If there’s anything I can do (making a poster, calling people, etc) that would be helpful, whoever could use me, just let me know.

This year's Slopefest will be an informal event at Lawrencetown on 14th August or 15th depending on wind direction.
There will be no barbecue or any organized flying, just come and fly.
Long term weather looks like Easterly wind on Saturday, 11 to17 kph which is not very usable. However forecasts are fickle and may change. Sunday looks better with 12 kph gusting to 18 kph from SOUTH which should be great.
Flying from 10 am on.
Bring what you have Foamies, Warbirds sailpanes, virtually anything will fly on the slope.
I'll keep weather conditions updated as things progress.

Update on the fickle weather forecast for Slopefest Sat/Sunday.
Saturday winds SW 15 gusting to 24 kph Cloudy with showers PoP 40%
Sunday Winds SW to South 11 gusting to 21 kph. Morning Rain 80% afternoon rain 40%.
Still in the balance. Forecast changing on a daily basis.

Update as of 2pm on Thursday.
Things are looking good for Saturday. Here's the latest from SpotWX.com site. ( this site , recommended by John Walker is one of the most detailed and hopefully one of the most relaible)
Winds light from South at about 8 kph in early morning increasing to 12 to 15 kph from south after 11am. Only low gusts so it should be nice conditions. No precipitation. Not sure of fog as another site showed fog in early morning.
Sunday looks a bust with westerly to NW light breezes and chances of some rain.

Aim to gather about 11am. It should be possible to get some regular flying at Shannon prior to heading to Lawrencetown.

hoping to cruise out tomorrow to beat the heat

i'm not rigged up for cargo yet, so may be in the spectator section

could still help with novice slopers or plane setup issues - would still love to fly something that doesn't fly right - haven't forgotten everything i know yet

all vaxxed up, so have full superpowers

Still holding up well for South wind 10kph at 11am picking up to 15 kph later, with very little gusts. Just right!! Only fly in the rum is fog, a possible hazard, but Vic is to give an update in the morning.

Well - One out of three is not too bad.
1) we got our south wind
2) forecast wind speed of 10 -15 kph did not happen. Best reading was 9.3 kph with mosty 5 -7 kph, suitable for only the lightest models.
3) dense fog mostly, occasionally clearing a little which made white models difficult to see.

I recon about a dozen fliers at various times - not too bad for the iffy conditions.
Big thing is that we all had FUN. Also gave us a chance to learn more about slope flying.

Temperatures were high and also was humidity making it muggy and sweaty.
Mosquitos were in abundance despite the high temperatures and they were very hungry.
