Update:

I did a little more work on the pulse today. I had to increase the size of the factory openings for the aileron servos. I also mounted the ESC, BEC and receiver. I mounted the ESC and BEC to the bottom half of an access hatch, and opened up an area under the motor mound to allow for proper airflow under there.

I installed the largest prop I have which is an 11x7. I wanted to run a test of the motor again to get some numbers to show you. I have read that folks are running 12x6, 13x8, 14x7, 15x9 props with this motor and an 80A ESC. Anyway, here are the numbers with the 11x7 prop (which I had to drill out to slightly bigger than 3/8" to fit over the prop adaptor!!!)...

For a 10 second bench run (no servos were connected):

59.4 Amps (ESC is rated for 100A with a 120A burst)
21.66 Volts
1309.9 Watts (motor has a kv of 580 and is rated at 1580 Watts)

I was actually frightened by the force that came from the prop as I stood directly behind the plane holding it steady... I think I need to attach a rope next time!!!!

Thats very close to 2 Horsepower, Murray....so I would say it's ok to be frightened...!
I would like to know what a 14/7 prop would do ....and I have a few of them, so if I remember I'll throw one in the flight box and have you try it.

Thanks Bill. I have read several post that suggest a 14x7 with this motor and a weight of 8 to 10 lbs. This plane will weigh in at 8.5 lbs, so a 14x7 will probably be the right choice.

2 HP eh! What size gaser would produce 2 HP?

Well, the Pulse is just about finished. I need to purchase two 16" servo extensions for the ailerons and a bit of shrink wrap for the three connections at the motor end of the ESC. I also need to glue the canopy to the plane (to protect Sponge Bob), and install the cowl.

If Maritime Hobbies has the extensions, I will probably bring the Pulse to the field for you guys to have a gander, and to have you experience the quite remarkable power of this motor... zoom zoom!!!

Oh, and I will say it one more time; don't worry... it will not be flown due to it's size, weight, and power. Not to mention the club rules that regulate the size and weight of planes that can be flown at SP.

That fellow must have been hard-up for money, or the plane was "hot". The motor alone cost about $200.00 Canadian (taxes and delivery included). Heck, the ARF kit alone costs about $300.00!

The only way I would sell mine for less than I payed would be if I used it for a long time and then got bored with it.

The Pulse is complete now except for flight tests. I will have to make arrangements for that with a friend at another flying site.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Good luck on the maiden. Don't forget to post pics of the flight.

It did sell fast....most of those ones have a 50 % discount built into them, especially when the guy gets a change of heart and wants the lastest heli ....or in a lot of cases gets laid-off from work.
