The last time I went by there they were closed, but a sign on the door said they are still doing business and to contact them on their Facebook page. Apparently they are making arrangements to take orders and coordinate pickups. Try them on Facebook.

What a great chance to try it yourself... really an easy process. Just need a soldering iron and some solder.... not sure what stores are open now but it really is not that daunting.... lots of YT videos to help as well as people here.

I have a 60W. The one that you purchased suggests "equivalent to 60W". Perhaps equivalent on a small area?

You need enough power such that the heat recovery is adequate for when you contact a large "heat sink" such as the circuit board. Ideally, the temperature monitored / adjustable units are preferred where possible, but these can be more costly. I tend to like heating at 350°C or so, but your mileage might vary!

It's unfortunate about the isolation or I am sure someone would be able to help you out.

Ivan,
I know you needed something right away, so I don't blame you for going to Canadian Tire. Just a heads up I got this 60W soldering iron from Banggood about a year ago for a very reasonable price. I am quite satisfied with it. Also, it is easy to find replacement tips for.

Princess Auto have a 40W for $19, and a 60W for $23. but they are NOT adjustable. That's a neat feature with the Banggood units.
