Inexpensive blades for hobby knife handles

I have recently received some viciously sharp blades that take the place of the standard #11 blades we are used to using.

On eBay search for this expression "100X Scalpel BLADES Knife Blade 11# "

You should be able to get 100 for about $10-12 US postage paid.

They fit the handles very well when a short bit is snapped off the handle end of the blade.

They are very sharp. They will cut to the bone with a single slice, when you are not careful. The cut is smooth and clean but hurts like the dickens.

They usually come with a handle, but they are not as good as the good old Xacto handle.

Cutting covering, foam, depron foam, balsa, etc is just a dream. Price is dirt cheap. Very sharp.

I like buying these by the 100 pack.
Can you snap the piece of the handle end off with a decent pair of pliers ? Or is that when it bites you?

Yes Bill, the blade is easy to snap off a bit from the end that goes into the blade holder. I just partially open the end of the sterile package, hold the package while I grip the end with pliers. A quick snap and done.

Grips well in a hobby knife handle.

Only problem is the delivery time from China. But once you get 100, it takes a while to use them up.

NEVER cut towards your flesh. Towards a helper, no problem. YOURSELF NEVER. The fix is sutures. You can order those online as well if you are so inclined.

Wow, that was fast. Must be a record. Especially from Hong Kong.

Not bad delivery time for "free shipping" - about 20 days. They need to be shortened to fit an XACTO handle and they are somewhat tough to cut off. I used two pair of pliers, a needle nose pair to hold the blade and a lineman type to do the cutting. (Just re-read Jim's method of cutting above, and must use his method of NOT unwrapping the entire blade prior to cutting the end off. I haven't cut myself YET, but could likely do that when working on about the fourth blade..OUCH!)

Each of those foil packets has 10 individually wrapped blades inside.
