SUPER SCORPION - "Father's Day" special..!
Ordered up one of these FMS Super Scorpion 70mm fan jobs last month from a supplier in Singapore...quite a saving over the same model from the US.
My son picked up the tab as a "Father's Day" gift, so all he needed to get was a card. He's happy and I'm thrilled..!
Saved the opening for today. Was a bit disturbed to see the box top damaged, however the contents are OK..!

Check out the 70mm fan .....12 blades..!
I got some cool five cell lipos in the 2200mah and 2650mah size that should "lite my fire"... and spin this thing at nearly 50,000 rpm.
Should have it for next weekend.

GREAT Maiden, Bill! I tried to capture a video with my iphone but will admit that it was difficult to see the screen and to accurately track the plane. This is a completely unedited version of that video....

Re: SUPER SCORPION - "Father's Day" special..!
Thanks for the video Brian. The takeoff was better than I had thought when doing the debrief. That flight was with a 4S 2600mah pack. On the second flight with a 4S 2200mah pack that had previously been roasted (last year) in a Stryker, the takeoff was unsuccessful and I put it onto the tall grass. Figuring that enough was enough I broke out the big guns and put in a brand new 5S 2200mah pack from Hyperion and that lit her up..! Five or six full throttle passes (being edged on by my Arnold Schwarzenegger friend, Steve, we forgot about using the timer, and ran out of juice, landing in tall grass. But what a show...!
So, 5S is the way to go for now. I have another new one, a 2600mah one, and just maybe the smaller one used (or abused) today may recover with a long slow recharge. I'll start flying 3 minute flights and see how that goes.
As far as flightability, there was no trimming required and it was rock steady, and has a long glide, so there is lots to like.
Because the fan is a 12 blade one, it sounds different (lower pitch) but the amp draw is much higher which results in shorter flights. If it survives the summer, there are some interesting mods that could be made with other fans and motors..!

You had two great flights Bill. Nice new plane.
I have a video of the first launch and some of the flight, taken with my S-III.
