CORSAIR from Hangar9 - 50 size

Unread post by retiredVTT » Fri Feb 07, 2014 6:29 pm

Ok...this has been sitting under my bench for 25 months...!

My first WARBIRD.....well serious Warbird; everyone has a couple of the hand-launchable foamies before they get a serious warbird..!

So it's a fairly large box, and they say good things can also come in big boxes.

First thing was to mount the aileron servos on removable wing covers and then mount the covers.

Some pictures are attached.

Next, something I have never done yet, installation of RETRACTS ...the Electric type..!

Nice Bill. What retracts are you putting in? Robarts?

No, I have the E-Flite rotating retracts that Hangar9 spec'ed for this model, so the six pages of installation pertain to this specific retract. The ARF contains the plastic wheel wells and 3.5 inch wheels for the model. Some people have gone with a 3.25 inch wheel for increased clearance in the well.

Here's your plane in action at ASRCM last summer Bill. Great flying airplane.

Pretty sure Alain is using the eflight retracts as well.

I spoke to Alain last year at Shearwater and had a good look at his plane.

Nice vid...like the pass at 3:00 and the wheels dropping at 4:55. Thanks for posting.

So...here we go, cutting big pieces out of the wing...!

First step is to shorten the retract strut with a Dremal tool..

Nice for Hangar9 to include clear "templates" for exact location to cut..

Surprised to see the ribs beneath the wing sheeting had been laser cut along a black line for removal and only needed a couple of cuts with a new #11 blade to get them out.

..pics explain the rest,

(hey, if I do a good job..I get to do another one on the other wing half..!)

Looking to use a 4020-10 Scorpion on 5S packs: 1200 watts, 75 amps on a 13.6 x 3 or a 13/8 x 2

..they call for "canopy glue" to attach the plastic wheel well; I'm trying E6000..will know in 24 hours if it makes the grade.
