Ok...bit of a diversion from the routine assembly, due to me wanting a bigger motor up front. To realize an acceptable appearance regarding the spacing of the prop to the cowl, the cowl should come ahead 3/4" inch and this will require that the cowl mounting blocks, already installed by the kit maker, will have to be extended. (See what you can get yourself into by wanting to be different..!)

Before I get into that....here's a bit of a tip.

You always want or need to support the model with a suitable caddy, but several models have different widths as well as shapes. I built a caddy several years ago that has removable ends, so you can just fashion new 2" thick Styrofoam ends to suit different models. Does the trick.

..couple of pics, as I prepare the Corsair for surgery.

Ok...on with the rubber gloves, and ready with the epoxy...stand by with the Rubbing Alcohol (epoxy cleanup).

..four 1/2" square blocks, each 3/4" long, will be attached to the already installed cowl blocks, and rather than rely on just a butt joint, I will drill the two blocks and join them together with a 1/8" dowel epoxied in, and also add a small 1/16" ply joiner strip on the backside.

..surgery commenced at 3pm and with the exception of one "oops" all four blocks were in place prior to a 5:30 supper call.

..the "oops" resulted in the drill coming out the side of one of the original cowl blocks, but "Mighty Putty" came to the rescue on that one, refilling the hole, so a correct hole could be made.

Will the heavier motor farther ahead cause the plane to be nose heavy?

Maybe shortening the motor mount box would have saved the CG location and avoided the cowl extension blocks.

I have a big ole 5S 4000 pack that can be shifted for CG balance. I believe this was the easier mod to make, since I'm going it purely for cosmetic reasons. "If she's going in front of the public, she's gotta look good..!"

Got the look I wanted with the cowl pulled ahead a big ole half inch +...so my cowl block extensions did the job.

I bought some rubber backed washers from RTL Fasteners awhile back...they work well on cowls. Last week I was over to Trans-World for something else and laying on the counter was a rubber backed washer....so I guess they stock them as well.

...few more pics of the motor, esc, install, and of the final prop clearance.
