I used to fly this class in the 1960's. A limited tank size was used, which required at least two to three pitstops for 100 lap heats and twice that for 200 lap finals. Complete familiarity with your motor was essential, making re-fuelling and restarts with one or two seconds a necessity. I specialized as a pitman and never braved it into the circle. On 52 foot lines 100 laps were 5 km and took about 4.5 to 5 minutes at 90mph. Nowadays they are completing the course in just over 3 minutes and are approaching 110mph. I am in the process of building my 1964 Claim Jumper racer which was the top model in Ireland that year. I have the Original 1963 Oliver Tiger hand built motor that I am putting in it.
