Nostalgia

Unread post by JohnOSullivan » Sat Aug 12, 2023 4:19 pm

60 years ago today, I flew for Ireland in the Free Flight World Championships in Austria. I flew in both the Glider and powered Classes. I had previously flown in the 1960 Powered World Championships in England.
The contest started on August 12 and our team arrived in a 1938 Morris 8 car which drew a lot of attention. The photo shows our timekeeper with one of my models.
The others are shots of my commemorative medal.
Coincidentally this years Free Flight World Championships start today in France and Canada is well represented with top class fliers including a former World Champion.

That is so cool John!
I wonder what it cost for an individual and team to participate in those contests? The figures I see these days are wild, $20k or more per person, not to mention four or five top of the line ships!
