Lawrencetown sloping Sunday 10th
Here's the forecast for weather at Lawrencetown tomorrow Sunday
Reasonable temperatures and moderate southwest winds - perfect for slope soaring.
I would like to get out about 1 pm.
These conditions should suit a variety of aircraft , from the lightweight to medium weight models.
If you have not experienced slope soaring before, come out and be addicted.
Have a look At Mary Jefferson's videos on Steve's recent posting
We hope to have regular slope sessions throughout the summer.
Can't think of a better present for Mother's Day!!
11:00 am 14 °C Overcast 14 km/h WSW
12:00 pm 16 °C Overcast 19 km/h SW
2:00 pm 18 °C Overcast 18 km/h SW
3:00 pm 19 °C Mostly Cloudy 18 km/h SW
4:00 pm 20 °C Mostly Cloudy 19 km/h SW
5:00 pm 20 °C Partly Cloudy 18 km/h SW

Re: Lawrencetown sloping Sunday 10th
After a morning sailplane flying in almost tropical temperatures (as opposed to yesterday's miserable cold wind) at Shannon, I headed to Lawrencetown in the afternoon. A brisk cold southerly wind of about 30 kph was blowing. Rick, Vic, Richard and Kevin Baker were there tossing their models around with skill in the breeze.
I brought my all-carbon moulded sloper WICKLOW for a maiden flight. I was a bit apprehensive, but on launching it proved to be a pussycat to fly. I only put up about 10 -15 minutes but it was very satisfying and showed the model to be exceptionally stable. I did not push the performance envelope but next time!!
This is a step up in state of the art slope racers for me and I'll have to take things easy. At 4 lbs for a 2 metre model it has a high wing loading.
A very satisfying slope day.

It was a good day of soaring about 8 people were out. I left about 2pm, was frozen by then with the cold ocean wind. Took my trusty DC3 and the Kunai. gotta say I love the way the DC3 looks on the low passes over the ocean.

Amazing the difference in temp between Shannon and the Slope....at noon we were all peeling off the layers at Shannon..!
Good day all around though..!
