I could not agree with you more, Mark ...it is indeed the "best hobby ever" ..even though it also can be a very "humbling hobby"..!

To further back up our claim of "best hobby"..I direct everyone to that thread from 12 years ago which is buried on page 2 of the HEFA "float forum";

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4

Lots of action here at the "Jerry Lawrence Provincial Park" in Tantallon, NS.

I like the sound of an electric float plane touching down; it's very peaceful.
I got a really great up-close view (from my motor-canoe in West Dover) of a chap landing and taking off in his full-sized seaplane just last week!

I really like flying from the water... no bounce... skidding in with the streaming water.... and the dripping water after taking off. But I haven't been able to do it in a few years. A combination of finding the right spot, new regulations, etc. I do have a UMX Icon which is great and had purchased a UMX Timber and floats some years ago for just this thing.... but that Timber has not been tried yet.

My TideWater is great... and light... but surpasses the 250g limit outside of a MAAC event. Similar for my "full size" Icon A5, Seawind and HK Skipper... you're getting me thinking....!

I totally agree, the eflite umx timber is a fantastic little plane on floats. Here is a photo of my well used umx timber down at a local spot near my place. Salt water though, so it gets quickly cleaned up after each flight. I use it with them on the snow too. So much fun! Still my favorite little plane. Would like to see the new umx turbo timber decked out with floats.
