Yeah...bummer Murray..but don't fret it..I'll take that dirty ole 750 Watt motor off your hands and get you a nice 450 Watt one so you'll be a happy camper again..!

No..it's not necessary to thank me..!

Here is a picture of the Mentor on Floats...

There is a thread on RCGroups that mentions replacing the motor mount with a fiberglas one.

I don't think you would want this one Bill... after 10 seconds of bench run time, the motor took a good 5 minutes to cool down. When I first touched it, it nearly burnt my fingers it was so hot!

That's purdy. I will search for the motor mount thread. Thanks Bill!

You know murray, in all the time I've been flying e-planes I've never seen a wattage reading anywhere near any published findings. people would build a plane, add the same motor and prop I have and tell me I'd see xx amps at xx volts. nada. never. I just go by what I see work and take a watt meter reading only for reference.

as long as the motor and controller don't melt and the prop stays on it's ZOOM ZOOM!

I found this site (French to English translation) that guides you through a Mentor build. It seems that the "vibration noise" I experienced is a flaw in the kits motor mount. Well, flaw is probably the wrong word. The mount was designed to be used with the motor they suggest. If you use a different one, especially a more powerful one, you have to do things differently.

What this guy suggests, is pretty much what I thought (and told some of you guys) needs to be done. Two screws is NOT enough to keep the motor mount from vibrating. He shows how to drill out the set screw holes to give the mount four more secure points using leftover servo screws. I have lots of those!!! So, instead of having 2 screws holding the mount in place, you now have six.

Also, he used a 6mm carbon rod to strengthen the motor mount support... I used a piece of rectangular bass wood soaked with thin CA!

To set the "down thrust" of the motor mount, he simply used small washers, to achieve the angles suggested, in combination with the 4 new support screws. Great and simple Idea!

I will try and implement these changes for our next outing at SP!

Yep, she's real purdy Al!

I think I will have to give the toilet paper trick a try... although I'm not looking forward to the clean-up afterwards. Maybe I can try that in my neighbourhood on Holloween night!!!!
