Winter Weather....!

Unread post by bdg » Sat Dec 30, 2017 8:58 am

Well - I had hopes of venturing to SP this morning but -12°C - even with no wind - just feels too cold. Anyone else braving the elements? I can't wait for the weather to change.... just a little warmer would make this a flying day!!!!

I was down at SP yesterday around noon. I got in four flights then called it quits because of the cold.

Jeff - thanks for the insight. I guess that it all depends on your tolerance level to cold, ability to keep the fingers nimble and the effectiveness of batteries (remembering that the internal resistance increases with cold.... and therefore there is less "punch" and reduced flying times!). Or perhaps I am just lamenting after being in Florida for a week before Christmas ---- now THAT is the type of winter weather that I really like.... +28°C everyday. Ah..... the days of summer!

Now back to reality. Thursday is supposed to break 3°C but also to bring with it 10-15cm of the white stuff. This is still a long ways off.

Tried to fly this morning, but grabbed the wrong DX6i. Got the one that the rudder does not work so I couldn't fly. Got to get that fixed some how.
Bob and Trevor were there, but not flying either so we just chatted until cold hands and feet got too unbearable for me to stand around any longer. My heated hoodie works good though. A 3s 2200 lasted more than 4 hours on high.

I never crash, I just create exciting ways to meet the ground. After all, take-offs are desirable, landings are inevitable.

Dropped by to say "Hello" around 10:30, but only had the gulls to talk to...so caught up with Chris D and John W. at Tim's.
Chris had flown his Funcub once, before retreating to the coffee shop.

We will all enjoy the weather when it becomes a balmy 0 degrees.....!

Happy New Year..!

Good luck to those that attempt a frigid flight on this New Years Day..!

On a more positive note, I took a look at the 14 day forecast and it breaks down this way...five days of indoor building, ...but nine days of potential flying weather, so there is some light ahead..!

HNY all,

Seven stalwarts out this morning and some good flying.
Minus 13 deg and 15 kph winds, which later dropped to about 5 to 7 kph.
Hard on the fingers but after warmup in the car everything was ready for another finger freezup.

I arrived quite late but the cool temperatures were moderated with the crew (and perhaps a heated sweater!)! Happy New Year to HEFA members! Went to Tim's afterwards but no one was there... so I headed for home.

Any new toys for people?
