This was taken earlier this week with a trusty old EasyStar and a 808 #16 keychain video camera. 720p 30 fps. Velcroed to the leading edge.

No gyro, no stabilization. Just some interesting views on a budget.

Nice video Jim. Even with the 808 Keychain Camera it Looks good. Your new country abode looks very good and you have an enviable flying field in a beautiful place, We may have to appropriate your site as the new HEFA flying field.

Will charge and test my Mobius camera. Then do a similar flight with it. Interested to see the quality difference.

What the flying area has is a landing problem. Normally the breeze comes off the water. The land slopes to the water. So landing into the wind means a tight low turn over the house and hope the sink rate is greater than the slope down the hill.

If you land the way in the video, you are landing down wind, up a hill.

Not for the faint of heart. First time flying a given plane can have lots of pucker power.

Large tall trees form a boundary on each side. Many are dead so the branches are not soft evergreens, but bare sharp pointed spears. Landing off the field is strongly discouraged.

Dead stick landings with small glow planes are the most excitement you can have with your clothes on. Can leave you shaking.

But that rush of success is why we do this isn't it?

I liked it a lot Jim, and said to myself at about the 10:20 spot..."the old man's still got it..!"...which is meant to be a compliment..!

Also was eyeing that "pond" out front...since we were just back from float flying on Saturday..!
It shows up well at the 1 minute mark in the video. Who owns it....and is it a reasonable pond or a swamp...?

That "pond" behind the road, is 2-5 feet of brackish water over 2-3 feet of the foulest smelling muck you can imagine. Access to it is not good.

Now the big pond out front, well that is a different matter. Clean, warm, ocean water. Mediterranean beachfront, ( gravel / rocks ) shallow for the first 100 feet. Might be up to your chest at 100 feet out. Easy access from the land as the shore is only 1-3 feet above water.

The down side it is a 4 hour drive from Halifax. The upside is that it is less than an hour from the Margaree Airport. So a Margaree weekend could be followed by a Baddeck Sea Plane week. From 6am to about 9:30/10:00 the lake is usually quite calm. Between 10 and 10:30 the on shore wind usually starts. Good for take offs. Stranded planes drift back to shore.

Now morning sea plane flying could be worked in with paved runway flying. There is an unused airport halfway between Baddeck and Margaree. Google measure says it is 770 metres or about 2550 feet. No neighbours.

It is on Crowdis Mountain Road. The road goes all the way to the headpond for the Wreck Cove generating station.

This is the google maps link to that airport. So one could stay in Baddeck after Margaree and have a week of flying. Mornings off the water, rest of day at an airport.

For those so inclined the Hunters Mountain Chalets are just a short distance away. There is also another airport near Baddeck. It may or may not be in use.

It is here. It is quite close to Baddeck and could be an alternative to Margaree for say a Labour Day weekend Fly-in.

Sorry it has cloud cover in the picture. It was supposed to have been paved even though it shows as a gravel runway.

Will check it out next weekend.

Maybe Baddeck can be a flying vacation mecca.
