Sad News
With a heavy heart I received news today that our most senior member, Tom Foote, has passed away, on March 4, 2017.
There will be a brief obituary in Tuesdays paper with time of visitation on Friday, March 10th., and church service on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 2pm at the Grace United Church, 70 King St., Dartmouth, NS.
(Later Edit: Several HEFA members plan to attend the Saturday 2pm service for Tom at the United Church, 70 King St., Dartmouth, NS)
Tom was such a sailplane advocate, having flown the real thing for many years before doing the same thing with RC models.
One day, years ago, he shared pictures with us about having left the Stanley NS field, come right down to Halifax, flown directly over the Citadel, took pictures, and then turned back and returned to Stanley; all the while being powered by the wind. I was blown away by this event, enough so that I went home and managed to find Tom's name on the Internet in regard to other achievements of his.
It was truly an honor to know you Tom, rest in peace my friend.
Bill

Re: Sad News
This is indeed unfortunate news. Tom definitely seemed to like the sailplanes - especially at Lawrencetown. I remember some discussions about a Radian Pro while at SP.
A real trek from Stanley to Halifax and back in a sailplane sounds incredible! That would be something to remember, for sure!!! What an accomplishment!

Tom was one of the people that got me interested in gliders. I have learned alot from him over the years.
Rest in peace, my friend. You will be missed.

He laughed the first time I called him "Tommy" and always asked about Lucy when I didn't have her at the field. I'm thinking about the planes he flew and very sad with this news. I will miss him.

Mary and I are very saddened by this news. He was a fine gentleman and a consummate aviator. His presence at the slope and at the field will be sorely missed.
Fair winds and clear skies, Tom.

I just seen the photo in the paper, and my heart dropped.
We had some great discussions, and a few laughs. An absolute super guy.
I hope he is strapped into his Cirrus holding a serious thermal.
