A BIG Compliment to HEFA

Unread post by saboo » Fri Jul 22, 2016 8:34 pm

Recently a local club held an event at their field. I was out of town enjoying a private flying field, so was not able to attend.

A friend decided to visit this club event and drove 50+ minutes into town to near where he believed the flying site to be. He was unable to find the somewhat obscure entrance to the flying field so he went on line with his smartphone. Lo and behold, when he got on the un-named clubs website, he found he needed to register to read about the event and how to get there. He was severely disappointed as he was unable to register and get confirmation. Thus he was unable to get the information he needed, and drove home without ever finding the way into the field or to see the event.

This is in stark contrast to the HEFA site. It is open, active, updated and encouraging of model aviation in all forms. The HEFA site has more posts, more information, and more openness than virtually any club site in Nova Scotia. Now some of this is due to the number of members, but I believe as well that the number of members may be a result of that very openness of the website.

Why other clubs have a restrictive policy on reading forums, news, and general information is hard to comprehend. It tends to dissuade people from taking an interest in the club and puts off those who may be less than willing to give out their email addresses and other information just to read a forum or see the pictures on the forum.

The HEFA website is not like that at all. Sometimes there are sensitivities that get a little bruised, but in general it is the openness that makes for a vibrant and interesting website. This is reflected in the membership numbers and use that the website gets.

So in contrast to some other clubs, HEFA gets a BIG COMPLIMENT for having such an open policy. Keep up the good work.

Maybe some of the HEFA executive could suggest to those clubs that have restrictive policies about their websites, that openness brings members and interest.

Nice to hear, Jim.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that we have a great club and great bunch of members!

Yes Jim, thanks for posting those nice comments.
It does make you wonder a bit when you encounter the resistance that some Clubs put you through when you attempt to "register". Especially when you receive an "auto-generated message" that says you will hear back from a human within 24 hours, and 48 hours later your still waiting.

Good to hear from you Jim, hope you make it to Avon on Sunday.
