CC3D Boards

Unread post by bdg » Fri Jan 15, 2016 9:23 pm

I've just watched a video which describes that the OpenPilot s/w for the CC3D board is no longer supported. They are recommending a "CC3D Revolution" board with LibrePilot s/w, which very much piggy-backs from the original OpenPilot s/w.

As many of you know, the CC3D board is an interface between the radio receiver and the ESCs that control the motors. This is very popular. Other variants of controllers that are also popular are the KK2 boards and the Naza-M boards. All of these have gyros and accelometers to maintain proper flight control with the multicopter. The CC3D is great as it allows for various angle modes (sedate, medium, fast) as well as tuning parameters, minimum speeds, etc etc etc.

Their video describes a fairly new board which is much more powerful than the original CC3D with extra degrees of freedom (10 vs. 6), radio telemetry to a PC for following a map, GPS, barometer, etc. The entire controller with these functions is available for just under $120. It certainly looks interesting!

The YouTube channel is full of useful RC tips and is fairly comparable to the quality of RCModelReveiws (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCahqHs ... Mmj2D5i1Vw).

One thing about this hobby - it is always changing! :geek:

Nice find Brian, especially the LibrePilot software!

I've had the revo board along with it's telemetry link for a few months now and have tested it on the bench but not in flight. I've been using the last release of OpenPilot because I didn't know about LibrePilot. The board seems to work as advertised, at least on the bench.

I'm going to check out the LibrePilot software as it supports CC3D again and it looks like it might even have real support for fixed wing now. The CC3D would be a great flight controller for an airplane if the firmware supported it (which was all largely theoretical with OpenPilot as far as I could tell) and with the revo it could have telemetry and navigation.

I will try the CC3D first and report back :-)

Yesterday I tried the CC3D Mini as a stabilizer in a Bixler (first version) and I was very impressed. I will start another topic on it.

With reference to Brian's original post, I bought my Revolution board by way of AliExpress but it actually came from http://www.goodluckbuy.com. As I recall it only took a few weeks to arrive and the shipping is free. They have all kinds of CC3D related stuff if you do a search and the CC3D Mini is only $15 US.
