ArduCopter

Unread post by RocketManRC » Tue Sep 20, 2011 10:35 am

I've had a quad with the ArduCopter controller since last December but it has been sitting in the hangar waiting for the controller software to improve.

The latest software releases look promising. Here is a video from one of the "beta testers":

That's using sonar for low level altitude hold and GPS for position hold.

Looks interesting! Keep us posted on the progress.

I decided to go "Hexa-copter". I've started on the design of my frame, here's the basic plan. I'm using multiwiicopter with this 4.o Paris plug-n-play board.

Here's the sketch up

I have been thinking hex or octo too... I really like your concept for your frame Jerry. Maybe you could make one for me too and maybe a couple of extras and we could split the cost?

Yes let’s get together on a build; I will build a couple of frame parts. Do you see anything that has to be modified? I design it to have an adjustable C of G to facilitate the fwd mounted camera. I still need to add rear landing points.

Keeping it simple :D :D

Here's a not so simple build. What do you think?

I really like your landing gear idea and middle mount camera on those "not so simple" ones Jerry! Maybe combine your first and second concepts?

Yes with a small change to plate assy the two may be swapped and serve the same purpose. I also will add additional spoke or tensioners to original design completing truss (60 degree pie section) and stiffen Hexagon structure.

Let me add the component tonight.

I think any commercial under slung camera device will work with both designs. So at this point I've chosen to just focus on the fame build, the camera gimble is a ways off.

Another good video of ArduCopter testing:

It's starting to look pretty functional.
