Also assume you made sure the KK has the tricopter firmware loaded? I believe many times they come with Quad + configuration loaded.
I did flash it with the tricopter firmware, however no, I have no done anything to calibrate the ESC's. I'll have to check into that tonight when I get home.

I'm using the Hobbyking version with the tricopter firmware loaded. I've tried the 1.6 version recommended by the rcexplorer.se site as well as 2.5 which is the latest available according to the flashing tool.
The ESCs needing calibration are the likely cause which I'll hopefully be able to get done up shortly after getting home

Well, calibrating the ESC's made a huge difference, however I still have some stability issues and tenancies to flip, however now I'm hoping that will be a matter of adjusting the pitch/yaw/roll values on the control board.
