And when HEFA members want to "move up a notch" ..they can get into these without ANY CHANGE in the name...you'll still be HEFA members..!

I understand Rick and Frank may be the first "volunteers"..!

Rob and I saw this airplane at Oshkosh recently. Didn't see it fly, but there was another e-plane that did fly. the Yuneec group also had an electric ultralight there and an electric powered parachute.

the brushless motors were about one foot in circumference and speed controllers about one foot square by about eight inches thick.

flight times were claimed to be about 1.5 hours with the small battery pack, 2.5 with the larger pack.

The future may be brighter for those taking their private licence...this type of airframe would be well suited for the routine of touch and go's, etc. With $5.00 for a three hour recharge, and the low maintainence costs, it could be a whole new ballgame.

I like the idea of flipping a switch and turning the whole thing into a glider......it's will be interesting to see what kind of cross country records get set once these receive approval in North America.

Once they get the system to a point where you fly for three hours and charge for 45 minutes, it will become very feasable. Then it's just a matter of initial cost....and in that department we have the likes of HobbyKing to provide the latest and greatest.

I expect Murray will be near the front of the line..!
