Unread post by yorcram » Sat Jan 28, 2012 11:33 am

I picked this up last fall and finally got around to putting it together. This is the old gws kit. I need to paint it dtill. Thinking of a Czeck scheme.

Nice looking model, Mark. It's too bad, though, that model ducted fans aren't particularly compatible with a lot of scale jets that have their engines in nacelles. They always require way over-sized, non-scale, nacelles to allow installation of a ducted fan big enough to provide sufficient power to fly the model. Still, looks very cool.

The 262 is definitely on my list of "must-build-some-day" models...

Cheers,
Vic

Hi Mark,
I was thinking of getting the GWS Me-262 as well, very curious to see how it turns out for you and how well it flies. I've seen a few videos of it in flight but they weren't very good quality. Are you planning to put retracts on it or going with the stock fixed gear?
I think it would have been a good candidate for the hobby king EDF but they are out of stock at the moment.

I've put the RCLander EDF in the arrow, it has a bell intake so had to make a collar adaptor to fit (or cut off the bell which I couldn't bring myself to do). It would work well in your plane as well.

Have you checked out the site in the US where they has built a couple of working replicas of the ME-262s?

I was thinking of retranct, then fixed to simplify, then hand launch as the large nacelles mean long legs.

I did see a video of a prototype a few years back. It made me want to get the kit in the first place.

Do you think the motor mounts will hold up to belly landing?
The wheels on the original jet were just barely past bottom of the turbines, wonder if they scrapped the turbine housing if they blew a tire on landing.

Finally a half decent day to paint. I decided on Czech scheme so technically this is a S-92 instead of the me262.
Still need to balance but otherwise ready for maiden.

Looks great Mark, can't wait to see it fly. I would really like to have one of these as well but curious to get your feed back on how well it handles first.
Maybe get to try some formation flying later in the year :)

The 2nd maiden went much better. The new nose needs to be finished and painted but the plane flies great, going to be a lot of fun. Lots of power but I need to ensure I have good batteries or it will spin in fast if one dies.
