SHEARWATER GYM - HEFA Indoor flying
After several attempts at locating an indoor flying site, our HEFA Event Coordinator, Andrew Curran, (AC180), hit it out of the park by getting us the use of the Shearwater Gym for seven Saturday sessions during March/April 2010.
The first session on March 6th proved to be a success with over a dozen flyers consisting of helis and fixed wing. The time literally "flew" by...pun intended, and all came away satisfied.
Thanks AC for hanging in there, and locating this site.
Some pics showing the overall size of the gym are located here.

Re: SHEARWATER GYM - HEFA Indoor flying
As mentioned above, 1.5 hr flying sessions go by quickly, and the next couple of ONE HOUR sessions will be even shorter, however we hope the members will bear with us as we feel our way along on this venture.
It may well be that longer sessions of 2 or 3 hours each, held less often, say every two weeks, will be another way to go. The important thing was to get something established at a facility that lends itself to our needs and I feel we have satisfied those two requirements. In the weeks to come input on this topic will be appreciated, so let the Directors know your feelings. The month of April is really the time for us to get our Fall session of Indoor flying dates reserved.

The size of the Shearwater facility is great! Too bad the ceiling wasn't a bit higher though, I want to try some loops with the Ember!

It is a fun time isn't it..?
That hour flew by..same next week, then we return to 1.5 hour sessions.
As mentioned above the Directors are already discussing longer sessions but less often as maybe the way to go in future.
It was great to see 11 flyers out today, so far we are slightly ahead on our budget over two of the seven sessions.
Lightweight and slow are two key ingredients for sucessful indoor flying....I had the first but lacked the second on my Micro SSX today, as I kept hitting walls until the elevator horn let go.
But my CX2 heli with a new spur gear was so much better than last week that I flew all three batteries out while gaining valuable flight time,,,,these little helis are a hoot. Now to get more packs, should have a half dozen at least.
