Hey now, don't take this "non-profit society" thing to literally..money in the bank is not a bad thing.
We don't know what faces us down the road.
I would hope with a good turnout, at the modest cost of $6.00 per hour (ten cents per minute), we might even add a couple dollars to our assets (after a year end trip to Tim's of course).
We gotta be ready when opportunity comes knocking at our door with a vacent field for sale or lease.

Just a little update to keep your interest...
Replies - 19
C (No) - 3
That leaves 16 divided between A (Yes), and B (perhaps, if I can get permission, and there's nothing on TV).
..stay tuned,
Bill

Re: SHEARWATER GYM - HEFA Indoor flying
I'm new to the club and have never flown indoors and was wondering what is the size limitaions for the indoor flying.
In particular I just purchased a T-Rex 450 Sport Helicopter Kit and wanted to know if it was small enough to fly at the indoor sessions.
The Dimensions are 715mm Main Rotor (tip to tip) and 643mm Nose to Tail Rotor gear box. Flying weight 770 g
To me it looks small enough to fly indoors, actually a little disappointed with how small it is. Metric to English conversion gets me everytime.

Hi Paul, as I mentioned in my email to you, that 715mm equates to around 28 inches for a rotor size...which is somewhat large for indoors. I'm not ruling it out..yet, but it would require approval from all Directors.
Generally the helis are either the co-axial type or somewhere in the 18" diameter rotor size. Fixed wing models are around 16 oz in weight or less...a few 30" wing span 3D foamies have been flown by experienced flyers who have kept them off the walls.
With the expanded time this year..2.5 hours per session, we might be more liberal with size as we could clear the floor for 5 minutes if need be to accommadate a special request.
Bottom line is to keep it safe.

One of the other members had a 450 size heli at Shearwater last season. I think the gym isn't really big enough for that size machine for much other than hovering, and even then only if you're already comfortable with it due to "low" ceiling height.
Bring it and try... you might feel differently.

Re: SHEARWATER GYM - HEFA Indoor flying
Ok...results of the poll are in...
11 for Yes..
11 for maybe sometimes..
3 for No
..so I would be in favor of us booking the gym for those four sessions in 2010;
Nov 6th, Nov 20th, Dec 4th, and Dec 18th.
This would tell us if we should continue with the same setup in 2011
Thanks for the quick replies,
Bill
