Are we doing any indoor flying this year? I'm starting to build something for indoor so I'll be ready.

Looking ahead two weeks, to the Wednesday between Xmas and New Years (Dec 28th) a few of us hope to go to Kentville for the Indoor flying session from 1 to 4 pm.

Depends on weather of course, and Jeremy from the Valley Club will keep us posted by email as to conditions in that area.

If you are interested in this, post something here, so we will have a better idea of how many are going.

Hi Bill,

If the session on the 28th is a go and the weather cooperates then I'm planning on going.

Looking forward to seeing your Katana Mini.

An update from Jeremy this week..Indoor Flying at the Kentville venue WILL be held Wednesdays Dec 21st AND Dec 28th from 1pm to 4pm ..$10.00 per person.

I'm going tomorrow, Dec 21st. to maiden my Mini Katana at around 13.5 ounces with a 100 watt 26 gram motor.

If attending, bring along indoor footwear, and they are asking for festive color clothing for a group Christmas picture. (I think that means reds and greens..!)

Not a bad idea to have a sweater with you...last time I was there, they kept the thermostat low; not complaining mind you..

cheers,
Bill

There was a good turn-out today at the Kentville site with a great group. HEFA members included Bill F, Chris D, Al C, and myself.

It is certainly large and accommodates planes and helis of all sizes. You definitely still need to keep your eyes open, though, for the faster and more maneuverable planes!

They've posted a short video of some flying on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/6893066 ... 158172061/

For those who might be looking to go - a reminder to take exit 14 from the highway; turn right and the indoor is located adjacent to a school maybe 5-6 km from the highway.

Thanks to the Kentville club for opening this up to other clubs!

Yes, real fun afternoon today...probably 20 guys..a group photo will be posted as soon as it's retrieved.

Regarding the mini Katana (shown above) it was a bust..! At 14 ounces, it was only one ounce over the manual suggested weight, however it dragged it's tail until I added two additional ounces to the nose. Then it flew but flew fast. In the words of test pilot Al C. "it's a real handful". So the decision was made to save it for outdoor use on calm mornings where additional altitude can be reached....you know, nine mistakes high..!

LATER EDIT: I believe I found the problem for the erratic behaviour (such as dropping a wing unexpectedly, among other things) but until further research is done, I'm keeping mum..which means the problem was self inflicted..)

What works fantastically at this venue are the EPP planes of Twisted Hobbies with wingspans of 24" and also the big brothers with wingspans of around 35". There were probably ten of these in the air today and I had the opportunity of flying one that Chris D had brought. https://buyrc.ca/index.php?route=produc ... uct_id=225 It's a real winner, and does everything very well. I believe there is a Canadian supplier in BC, known as buyrccanada at this website http://www.buyrc.ca/index.php?route=pro ... ry&path=59
The planes they sell might seem pricy, but much design and engineering has gone into them, and the proof is in the flying....they simply perform very well!

A number of "Cliks" there today.. http://www.rc-factory.eu/en/katalog/win ... -2149.html Watch how slow they fly..!

I have the TH mini Yak https://buyrc.ca/index.php?route=produc ... duct_id=60 under the tree as I type this so will be working to get it ready for January flying. Next week I'll have to resort to a couple of home-made pizza box flyers such as my 2014 Corvette model. Maybe I can add streamers to it, for the others to go after..!

..Merry Chrismas all..!
