INDOOR - 2014-2015

Unread post by retiredVTT » Wed Oct 08, 2014 3:10 pm

Got a note from Vic today, as follows..

Guys,

Mary and I made inquiries of the booking requirements at the Lake and Shore Community Ctr, 40 Inspiration Drive, Porters Lake. I also took a run up to the Ctr to have another look at the gym yesterday.

I think the gym will be very favourable for indoor flying. It is not huge by Kentville or Canada Games Ctr standards, but it is certainly larger than Prospect. It is almost square in configuration which I believe will lend itself to much more comfortable flying. The square footprint will provide a huge centre area for those who want to fly helis or 3-D at the same time as others are flying circuits. The ceiling is nice and high as well. I believe that members will be happy with this facility.

As such, I have booked the Ctr for 2-1/2 hrs on Saturday 22 Nov from 11:30 to 14:00 hrs.

Vic.

..thanks Vic,
..I will add that after a mini disaster, financially, last season with only 7.4 flyers showing up on average over nine sessions (we needed 12) we are taking a different approach this year, by trying a different venue at a different time slot, and on a monthly basis.

I would ask if you are interested in Indoor Flying, let us know by committing to coming out. We understand that not everyone can make every session. However if we can get twenty names committed from our membership of forty-five + guests from other clubs, it would provide feedback to those who are trying to secure better venues and time slots.

thanks..!

Bill

Just to clarify what Bill is stating above, I want to say that we are not expecting anyone to committ in writing to coming to this particular indoor event so far in the future, as this would be unrealistic. What I would like is for members to express whether or not they have a basic interest in indoor flying this winter.

10 to 11 people attending each session would allow us to break even at $10 each (which I feel is a good deal for 2 and a half hours of comfortable flying). As indicated above, the intent is to have only one session per month (excluding Dec, which tends to be too busy for people). So far I have only booked this one session until I can gauge how much interest there is for more sessions next year.

The venue really is a good one, so I think those that come out will be pleased. I would ask that you please respond to this post if you think you will be interested in doing some flying over the long cold winter.

Thanks,
Vic

I'm definitely interested! The only issue would be the ever-changing schedule / commitments for my kids.

The frequency of these sessions is really tough - we all like to get out as much as we can but life gets in the way. I would think that every two weeks - rather than every 4 weeks - would be a good overall balance - but that is just my opinion!

Thanks for your efforts in helping to organize this! Indoor flying can be a lot of fun and a larger space would be awesome!

Brian

I'm keen on the indoor flying this year. I'm scheduled to work during this November's session, but will try to get out of that, especially since it's only going to be once a month.

Thanks for this, Vic!

Only one month to go for our first indoor session of the 2014/2015 indoor season!!

I have been getting a lot of positive feedback from folks that are very interested in coming out for our 22nd of November session in Porters Lake. So much so, that I'm going to look into booking more sessions. Possibly one for December, but definitely some in the new year.

There has been some discussion that perhaps once a month may not be enough. I guess I would like to get more feedback on that, or wait to see the turnout for November.

Can't wait!

Vic

We'll be there. Waiting for the new FPV Vapor to arrive. Will be a blast indoors.
