Indoors in the mean time

For those needing an indoor flying Fix before January, the Wings of Wellington have 3 hour sessions every Wednesday afternoon from 1pm to 4pm at the Kentville Soccer Stadium. Take exit 14 off the 101 and head back towards Kentville. It is on your left.

...Yes, memberships can be taken at the Indoor events, and all new memberships at this time of year include the 2015 year as well...that also applies to MAAC membership.

see you there,

Hi guys,

Too windy and cold to fly at Shannon this weekend? Of course it is - it's freakin' winter!!

So come on down to Lake and Shore Community Centre (40 Inspiration Dr, Porters Lake) and enjoy guaranteed warm and calm flying conditions!

There will be a Pilot's Briefing at 11:30 prior to the commencement of flying. This is a new locale for us, so I wanted to set out the ground rules that I have come up with so that we all enjoy a safe and enjoyable session of flying.

As discussed at the Annual General Meeting earlier this month, my intention is to have general flying throughout the entire 2-1/2 hour period with the restriction that the perimeter of the gym be utilized strictly by those flying circuits (and all in the same direction!). As this is a roughly square space, it will permit all 3-D (ie. aerobatic), helicopter and multi-rotor flying to be conducted in the middle portion of the gym floor. There is also a very large stage inset into one wall of the gymnasium. I was thinking that this would be an ideal, out of the way and safe area for those heli and multi-rotor guys who just want to practice their hovering. I am aslo certainly open to briefly ceasing all flying to accomodate those pilots who might like to conduct a maiden test flight of a new design or a newly purchased ARF.

My intention is to enforce respectful and disciplined flying by all participants. We have to remember that not everyone is flying an indestructible EPP aircraft, or one for which they are unconcerned about it's survival. We have to be respectful of other peoples planes (as well as, of course, the pilots and spectators on the sidelines) when we are flying our aircraft, regardless of the type of plane we fly or the style of flying we might like to do. In all these ways, I believe that we can accomodate everyone safely without having to resort to flying specific categories in specific time periods.

As the event coordinator, I will, in consultation with the other HEFA directors, reserve the right to deny the flying of an aircraft deemed unsuitable or unsafe for indoor flying. This determination will be based on wing loading and the resultant ability to fly slowly and controllably enough in a restricted space.

I certainly encourage input from all of you should you have any ideas on improving or changing the rules that I plan to enforce tomorrow. It will be a learning process as we come to understand the potential and limitations of the space.

I look forward to the start of a fun and rewarding indoor season tomorrow. See you at the gym!!

Thanks,
Vic

Thanks for that Vic, I think your new approach has merit, and I hope it is what we need to revive the numbers for our Indoor sessions.

..see you Saturday,
