The facility is bright, in great shape and, as noted, has much better ceiling height. I think it will be fantastic and don't want to miss any sessions.
My only concern now is maintaining access! We should evaluate aircraft for potential to cause damage - particularly to the flooring.
Great news Bill, thanks.

I certainly laughed when I read that. I am glad to see some have a sense of humour!!Dirt Torpedo wrote:We should evaluate aircraft for potential to cause damage - particularly to the flooring.
Will have to dig out my 'flat outs" indoor planes, although the Easy Star is foam and should not hurt the floor.............

No sarcasm intended. In particular I'm thinking of helis - aluminum blade grips doing the funky chicken dance and beating the floor to death at 3000 RPM. The expense and consequences would not be good.

Guess I missed something... what happened to, "every second Saturday evening for 2.5 hours"?

I didn't have any involvement in the arrangements Murray but it seems like the only significant change was from Saturday to Sunday.
Bill's announcement covers 2.5 hours, every second Sunday, from Nov 7 to the end of the year. Given the way Halifax Rec works, I expect: (1) the 2011 schedule will have to be worked out separately, (2) that they would want to put this on initially for a trial basis.
Presumeably a number of us would prefer to fly outdoors for as long as possible, so starting the indoor season in October might be too costly if we had a limited turnout.

Floor space in the community gym (north side of the building) is listed as 8400 sq ft, by my recollection of the shape it is probably 80' x 105' (24.4m x 32m), and has a curtain that is sometimes used to divide it half. The school gym (adjacent to the south side of the community gym) is 10500 sq ft.
Bill, both gyms are available to the city on weekends - can you confirm if we have booked the entire Bob Douglas Community Gym or the school gym?

Murray...with regard to Sat evening at Shearwater, they approached us to say they had another party who would really like to have that booking time ...yada yada...and these people where able to pay up front for the entire winter season and also take it EVERY week...more yada yada...so when this new venue appeared on the scene, we, the Directors, made the decesion to go for it.
Since then, communication with Shearwater has remained very good, and they say they will still try to get us a time slot in 2011 if we so desire it.

OK Bill... let me know if/when Shearwater becomes available. I'm not interested in going to HFX or the Sunday afternoon time slot!
Thanks though!
