When I was a beginner (not that long ago!), I happened to meet Jack and then Bill and talking to them and watching them fly was a huge inspiration to me. Before that I thought I was the only one in Halifax who was flying electric airplanes 
Bill has provided a great resource here and on top of that there are lots of people around to seek help from.

Here is what I think is an excellent "tip" that I read today in the May 09 issue of Fly RC magazine.
It's a method to add strength to those styrene plastic cowls that a lot of kits have.
"Tear paper towel into strips and soak the strips in POLYURETHANE GLUE, and line the inside of the cowl with them; pat them down.
The glue swells and foams up to form a rigid cowl lining, and the paper towel helps to distribute the glue evenly."
The only thing I would add, is to not bring the paper strips out to the edge of the cowl as I would think that you would be unable to get it on over the front edge of the fuselage once the glue has expanded.
Anyway, I'll be trying this on a cowl for my StevensAero Edge, as the two piece plastic cowl is thin, and so far I had only run strips of fiberglas tape inside it to give it more strength, so I was delighted to see this suggestion.
