TIPS and PROBLEM SOLUTIONS for RC FLYERS

I saw a "new Gorilla glue" at CTC the other day.
It's a "Super Glue" and says you position the parts for 30 seconds and that's it.

It's clear, reasonable thick, $5.98 for a one ounce bottle, is NOT a polyurethane foaming glue.
But it does not say c/a anywhere on the bottle either.
Says it's good for metal, wood, plastic, does not mention foam.
Guess it will have to be tried on foam.

Sometimes you read a tip that is SO simple...you think..Jeez, why didn't I think of that..! Well, maybe because I have not faced this problem ..YET..!

We all know that Nylon screws (we like to call them Bolts) are used to secure landing gear with the idea that they will break off instead of the entire bottom gear plate ripping out on a rough landing. My S/A Edge even has the motor mount cage fastened to the fuselage front with Nylon bolts.

So here's the tip ...when the bolts break off...
"heat the end of a screwdriver and push it into the remaining Nylon stump and let it melt a slot."
Presto, back the bolt out..!

See what I mean...Simple..!

Another link that allows you to compare motor "Kv" values with the respective "correct prop sizes" ....info like this will help prevent motor burn outs due to incorrect prop sizing which leads to excessive amp draw and the letting out of that magic smoke..!

Just came across this method of attaching a tailwheel to the rudder.
Takes the strain off the servo...but allows the wheel to track with the rudder.

Cutting and soldering motor wires

On some motors -- Towerpro CDrom motors, for instance -- the wires exiting the motor are extensions of the copper windings. This means the wire itself has a varnish coating that prevents solder from adhering. As a result, if you want to shorten the wires you won't be able to solder them to new connectors or the ESC wires without removing the varnish.

Here's a trick I learned from a guy on RCGroups: heat the varnished wire on top of an Aspirin tablet with your soldering iron tip. The Aspirin will melt, creating a syrup of acetylsalicylic acid that dissolves the varnish. Don't inhale. With the wires still hot, removed them from the Aspirin goop and immediately add solder. Voila: perfectly tinned.

CORROSION X..is a product developed for the aircraft industry to fight corrosion and works well to waterproof our electronic assets in the models we build.

I have waterproofed servos by removing the bottom of the case, submerging the servo , letting it drip, then reassembling the case. Servo is also quieter now as it's well lubed.

Others have dipped esc's and receivers in this product before flying off water.

So where do you get it...in Canada..?

Beginner Tip: Choose your solder wisely.

I had been using solder previously, that came with a basic 25 watt soldering gun I bought several years ago, and that solder worked great. When that ran out a few months ago, I picked up some solder from Circuit City. It was labeled "Lead-Free Rosin Core Solder 1.2 mm". I found it very hard to work with, and now, two months later, some of the wires I soldered are letting go. When this happens, you tend to loose control of your plane... for obvious reasons!!!

Being a newbie, I did not know that this stuff was not the same as the stuff I had been using. I should have picked up some "thinner, 60/40". I have some of that now!
