E-Flite power 25 or power 32

Unread post by Enforcer » Thu Oct 22, 2009 8:35 pm

I am "thinking" about buying one or the other but, as usual, I am not "sure" which one. Here is why...

E-Flite suggests using either motor in the E-Flite Pulse XT 25e. They state that the 25 is fine and will work when using the floats. But, if you want the "omff" factor, then use the power 32. Now, here comes the part that I don't understand. They (E-flite) state that if using the power 25, than use a 3s, 3200. But, if you use the 32s, than use a 4s, 3200.

Now, my question...

If I were to use the Power 32 with a 3s, 3200 (not the 4s, 3200) would I not see any improvement over using the power 25?

BTW, both motors cost the same??? The 32 has a lower KV.

Thanks!

Murray, I looked at both the GH site and the Horizon site and the facts differ somewhat...Horizon lists the 25 as a 600 Watt motor and the 32 as a 800 Watt motor (both higher figures than GH quote)

The 32 is a bit higher priced...$7.00

Continuous current is 32 amps for the 25 and 42 amps for the 32 motor which weighs 10 grams more than the 25 motor.

So with 3S on the 32 you could draw a larger current and have more power than with the 25.

But also since the 32 has a lower KV which effects the RPM of the motor, you can run 4S on it and along with the higher current, it now becomes a monster.

I'd be buying the 32..since it's more versatile..

Murray

As you know I looked very hard at the Pulse XT 25E. I also read the complete RC Groups post on it...some thing like 2000 posts. I had/have decided that if I do ever by the 25 that the Power 32 is the power plant, I guess it turns the plane into quite the rocket (it had be clocked at over 90mph). But I am interested in flying off water and it appears that the P32 will give you hords of power. You can always fly throttled back... . The other things I noticed in the RC groups is it seems the 60amp ESC they recommend maybe a little small as some people were showing wattage draws of up to 1000watts on a 4000mah 4S, even though the ESC and motor are not rated for this kind of wattage.

One of the reason I bought the Mini Pulse instead of the 25E was size, although I'm still getting used to the field, I was afraid that the 52" wingspan of the 25E might be too big for SP. Maybe the wires and my Kadet are still haunting me, I'm sure others think differently.

Regardless this is from the Pulse series and I'm sure it will be an excellant airframe, and I have never read anything bad about it.

an affordable and excellent substitute for the eflite motors in that class is the turnigy 42-50 700KV running on 4s or 5s 4000/5000 packs. Jon and I have four of these flying our planes, two of 'em in his 90 inch comet. One of my ships is 4.5 pounds and the other 6.5 pounds.

this motor and their plush 60 amp controller can handle up to 14/8 prop and despite the 725 watt rating up to 1200 watts easily. not even breathing hard.

Mike Miller was the one who pointed this motor out to me. he has been flying it on float planes for a couple of years.

This is a link to a video from a guy in Comox, BC, flying his Tsunami 40 on a Turnegy SK 42-40 motor ..if you read his comments he says the performance is better than the same model with a Webra 40 glow that he had some years ago. Quite a compliment..!

(Note ..what I just did here is known as "hijacking a thread" ..providing info that is not directly related to the thread topic (Efite 25 and 32 motors). However, in the interest of providing info that compares the Turnegy line of motors with the Efite motors...I felt the risk of being "flamed" was worth taking..!)

This is another motor from hobby city. TGY AerodriveXp SK Series 35-48 1100Kv / 770W $24.95. Reports on rc groups compare it to the 32.

I bought this for my 25 Cub along with Turnigy plush 60Amp $43.89

Supposed to be great motor for float flying. Hope so. Will probably have to wait until next spring to find out.
