Lawrencetown Slope MAAC Renewal Secured

Unread post by DoverSail » Thu Sep 08, 2022 6:01 pm

Hello all HEFA members!

Please be advised that we have secured a 1-year extension from the NS Department of Natural Resources allowing us to continue safely enjoying glider slope-soaring at the Lawrencetown site.

The new agreement is in effect from September 8th 2022, to September 8th 2023.

Let's get lots of use out of the site! :D Remember to make yourselves familiar with all relevant MAAC and HEFA safety requirements.

Have fun!

Great news. The administration stays true to the cause. Another great victory for rc flying. Way to go Josh.

Thanks fellas!
Sadly this weekend looks like a bit of a bust for flying at SP (due to winds) and at Lawrencetown (winds from wrong direction) so I hope some of us can get some flying in this evening wherever we are.

Steve,

The MAAC safety requirements should be very well known to any member of MAAC and certainly to any members of HEFA. There truly is nothing more important than safety as our solid safety history is what allows us continued use of these facilities. You will also know that the back of every MAAC card requires the pilot to acknowledge adherence to the MAAC safety code - and that this is a condition of MAAC coverage. Again, there should be no surprises.

Now - that said - there are a few locations for good information.
(1) Page 2 of our membership application - intended to be reviewed and completed annually - has a summary of some of the rules for HEFA and for MAAC. Typically these are aligned but in some cases there could be higher restrictions with HEFA. It is important to note that this is not all-inclusive and can be superseded by MAAC or by HEFA. The link to the latest membership application is here: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2004

(2) MAAC safety codes. As MAAC members, we are required to review and to follow each of these rules. There are a lot of them located here: https://www.maac.ca/en/documents.php. See the MAAC screen capture below and focus all of the documents but especially on the safety codes:

Thanks for asking. Be sure to let us know if any clarifications are required. Safe - and happy - flying!

Brian
