Canada150 Trail dedication day - Oct 26, 2017

New postby retiredVTT on Thu Oct 26, 2017 4:52 pm

Took in the festivities today as our flying field landlord, Canada Lands Company (CLC), cut the ribbon and dedicated the new Canada150 Trail that they have been working on for several months. The trail is roughly one kilometer in length and leads to a very nice lookout on the edge of the Halifax Harbour. The trail is located along the edge of the Shannon Park lands that will be redeveloped by CLC.
This re-development of the old Navy base takes time, and although it is difficult for the developers to give us an exact time table, it does appear that HEFA is probably going to be able to use the field for the year 2018. They will still only consider six month leases, however we can live with that.

Here are some pictures taken today.

Spoke to Canada Lands coordinator Chris Millier today and asked him what was the realistic expectation on the HEFA use of Shannon Park for flying. He thought that the fall of 2019 was the expected date for starting on our area. He did state that this timing was flexible and as a result we would be getting only short time lease extensions. It at least gives us some confidence that we are fine for 2018.
All in all it was a very positive turnout today, but they made no mention of any possible uses for the overall area.

For those who might be interested.... see the link for an approximate transition from the current configuration at Shannon to the newer proposed configuration.... it's rough but helps to get the idea across.

This is a video of the transition: https://youtu.be/LjAMMVPtMGQ

Have a look!

Wow, that's a lot of development. I'm surprised to see that it looks like even the school is losing their sports field.

If you look at the YouTube video - you will see the proposed differences.... new roads, new buildings, etc etc etc. Incredible amount of changes, really!
