Slope Fest 2017!

Unread post by CF Av8or » Mon Jul 17, 2017 9:16 pm

Get ready to soar, because Slope Fest 2017 is less than a month away!!

It's the most fun you'll have without a motor, so get your gliders ready, or take the prop off your favourite power-plane - you can fly just about anything on the slope with the right wind conditions. If you've never tried slope-soaring before, I will be providing slope intro lessons on my slope trainer, so there's no excuse to miss the fun.

I would like to dedicate this year's event to the memory of a great glider pilot and long-time flyer at Lawrencetown, Tom Foote.

There will also be a post-event BBQ and bonfire for all participants at my place just up the road from the slope, so keep your Saturday evening free as well. Check out the poster for details.

Cheers,
Vic

Did a quick check on the 14 day forecast for Lawrencetown ( for what it's worth).
Forecast low 15C to high of 21C with 8-10 kph SSE winds and sun. Light winds, but with the hot air tales from the fliers and the expected Sea Breeze around Noon the wind should be good.
Get your models ready. Remember, slope flying does not necessarily have to be for gliders only, your Strykers will slope well as will your Warbirds.
Vic and Mary put a lot of effort into this and it continues to be one of the best attended Nova Scotia meetings of the year.
There is a regular contingent from New Brunswick and we have also had good support from Quebec and Ontario.

Thanks, John, for posting on RC Canada.

As this year's even will be in memory of long-time glider flyer Tom Foote, I have a request to anyone who is the current care-taker of one of Toms sailplane models. Could you please let me know if you can bring it to the event, as I would like to see it flown on the day as a memorial of sorts.

Thanks,
Vic

Working on the weather for the weekend.
Have arranged for the north wind to switch to Southeast on Saturday.
Chance of a shower.
Should be good overall.

Slope Fest 2017 Postponed

Unfortunately, the weather will not be cooperating with us this weekend, so have made the decision to postpone the event until next weekend, Saturday 26 August.

Although this Sunday looks a little more hopefull, with possible clearing in the late morning, the field is going to be soaking wet and our out of town visitors won't have the opportunity to enjoy a full day of flying. So next weekend it is then....

I hope this doesn't prevent anyone interested from attending, but there's not much anyone can do about the weather.

Thanks!
Vic

Too Bad about the Soarfest, but all is not lost.
Sunday, it is 10kph from the SSW picking up to 14 kph by noon. Maybe a little fog as ceiling is low, but should clear.
I'm heading out to Lawrencetown at 11am Chris Dean and I think Al Coolen are going also.

Had some good flying at Shannon this morning with my 2.5m moulded Magellan. Just heading for the slope with Chris D and others.
Hope it's not fogged in. Take a chance and join us.

Six of us at Lawrencetown Sunday 20th afternoon.
The winds were light to variable strength from the south (good) but fog limited visibility and it was difficult to see models.
Lost my Mayfly in fog on approach, but picked up sight of it at 20 ft near MacDonald's House and landed safely in the driveway.

As for Slopefest this coming weekend (26th) all forecasts are for light winds consistently from the northwest and north. Not flyable at Lawrencetown.

All should be good for Shannon Park.
