Re: Slope Fest 2017!
Guys,
Slope Fest is a go this weekend, in spite of contradictory forecasts and uncertainty about the wind direction. I'm not as yet calling the event for either day, Sat or Sun, due to being unable to tell which will be the "better" day at this point in time.
Let's just say the event is a go whenever the gods favour us with a south to southwest wind. This could be as early as Saturday afternoon or as late as Sunday afternoon, depending on which forecasts you believe (personally, I don't trust any of them). I will try to update this site when able. The bottom line is, the New Brunswick gang will be arriving at my place in Lawrencetown on Friday evening, and we will be flying when the proper wind presents itself all weekend.
There will be a BBQ lunch served on either Sat or Sun (depending on the wind), and there will be a bonfire party at Mary's and my 500 West Lawrencetown Rd property for any and all flyers and friends on Saturday night (regardless of the wind situation). So please come join us and bring something to drink and/or to BBQ and a lawn chair for this annual social event. It's worth it, if only to listen to Jim Lloyds crazy stories! There may also be some evening park-flying in the big field at my place, so bring an electric plane with you if you come.
As well, anyone is welcome to camp at our place for the weekend and avoid driving home after the flying and festivities.
Here's hoping for a good wind!
Cheers,
Vic

Re: Slope Fest 2017!
I have all my gear charged up and am anxious to hit the slope & roast a few wienies in the evening.
This is the event I look forward to all year.
The weather is supposed to be good, so I anticipate a great time with a bunch of flying. It's always a bunch of fun.
Just to let folks know, most power planes will slope very well, especially if you remove the prop (reduce drag).

Update
Looks like Morning North winds Change to mild Southerly by mid morning both days.
Relatively light winds (<12 kph) so bring along your lightweight models.
Some fog in there also.
Maybe Suitable for electric at Shannon in the mornings ans Slope in the afternoons.
Best of both worlds.

Re: Slope Fest 2017!
It's on for Sunday!
The latest wind forecasts indicate that Sunday will be the main event. Nevertheless, the bonfire social is still a go for Saturday night (any time after 7 pm) in West Lawrencetown. That's not to say we won't be flying on Saturday late afternoon as well, as it looks like the wind may be favourable then. And of course, some park-flying at my place afterwards.
One wind forecast is indicating some potential strong SW winds 11 gusting 19 knots for Sunday afternoon, so don't leave your fast, heavy slopers (or power models with their props removed) behind, as it might be really good!
I look forward to seeing everyone there!

It takes some concentrated mental powers to make the wind do what we want.
All set to go.

Saturday afternoon, from noon on to sunset, wind increasing from light to moderate, but in a much better direction than Sunday. May be too light until 2 pm or so, but I will have some electrons in the tank just in case.

I've been looking forward to getting back to this event for the last couple of years. I'll be there tomorrow afternoon with Tom Foote's Spectra and whatever else I can bring. I'll likely bring a couple of stunt kites, for later on.

Still looking like Sunday will be the better of the two (from the forecasts I'm looking at), so this will be the official day of the event.
Saturday afternoon looks quite flyable too, so some flyers will be out there then as well.

Re: Slope Fest 2017!
Just got back from Lawrencetown and we had a great time(other than fighting off hoards of mosquitos).
Ten to 12 in all in light conditions (8 to 12 kph) southerlies and clear skies. Surprise that none of the 14+ fliers flying this morning at Shannon, other than myself attended. Some great flying and when wind died off around 5 pm the electrics were still flying.
We had several new faces from the Valley and of course the New Brunswick representation.
Gathering at Vic's tonight and back on the slope tomorrow.
Similar winds forecast for tomorrow after Noon.
Come and at least observe the Joys of sloping. No need to depend on your battery for extended flights. flights of an hour plus are common.
