Hi folks,

This is Jeff George here. I was at SP this afternoon (Sunday) around 1:30 pm. There were two teenaged boys with a metal detector hanging around the flying field. I brought down my flying gear, warning them they should keep away for their safety. I went up and chatted with Howard (the security guy in the red car) for a few minutes. When I came back down, they were digging holes in the field (on the opposite side from the pits). A short time later, a gentleman in a Belfor Property Management vehicle came by. I asked him if he knew what they were doing. He did not but went down and told them they need to stop immediately and fill in the holes.

The boys left shortly afterwards, doing a poor job of filling in the holes that they had dug.

Just an FYI in case anyone is wondering about the gopher holes on the field (to the left of the HEFA grass "sign").

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, for both the update, and for calling out these guys that were digging up the field. We noticed some holes Sunday morning and wondered what idiots would do that to a manicured field. Guess it takes all kinds. If we catch them doing it, I suggest we confiscate their detectors. Let them holler over that as we turn the equipment over to the police, just after it takes a bath in the harbour.

Yessir, some years ago I arrived at our old ASRCM field on the Neithforth farm to find two guys with metal detecters digging holes in our runway! Couldn't believe what I was seeing and this wasn't kids...adults! Idiots who might if they were lucky find a washer or an old glow plug.

Takes all kinds like the ones who burned figure eights all over our current runway sometime on saturday.

Hi Guys,
I went down to the field this morning with a couple of rakes and a bag of topsoil to fix the divots! It looks a lot better now and I am sure the weeds will take over (cover) those spots soon!

Keep all receipts Tom, we really appreciate your quick response on this, and will cover costs.

Al....as much as this damage annoys us, it can't be nearly as bad as what you fellows are facing. The locals have to know for sure that yours is a Club field. In our case they probably have no idea that we have an actual lease. In either case it's vandalism by those who don't even know what the word means. I mean..jeezz man, it's just a field of grass!

I took advantage of the sunny skies this afternoon to mow the field and keep the weeds at bay! The weatherman does not look to be co-operating for any flying this weekend. Hopefully those guys at the weather bureau are wrong so Slope Fest 2015 can happen!

No more divots were discovered, I guess those guys got the message! I only encountered a couple of good pilots testing their skills in the brisk winds. I opted to keep my heli in the car. ;)
