Porter's Lake Field Improvements - 2013-2014

Unread post by retiredVTT » Sat Mar 30, 2013 4:41 pm

This will update members as to improvements that will be undertaken in 2013 to the flying field at Porters Lake.

In 2012 we built five portable pilot stations as well as three pilot tables. The tables allow models to be raised off the ground while being serviced. The pilot stations provide both a barrier between pilot and aircraft traffic as well as designating exactly where a pilot is to actually fly from.

The next problem was ...where do we store these items, as well as where do we store things like a barbeque...when we get one..!

So, to answer that problem we have purchased a 16' x 8' trailer that has a partition dividing it into two sections. We will have this trailer on site within a few weeks. Initial planning calls for using one section of the trailer to store the items built last year; and hopefully the other section of the trailer can provide a sit down area for members to partake in a beverage. Each section has it's own exterior door, with steel steps leading up to these doors.

With regard to the field itself, owner Bob will be rolling the surface just as soon as it is free of snow and dry.

As things progress, pictures will be added here.

I want to extend thanks to Trevor, David, and Vic, for their help in working with owner Bob to bring about these improvements.

A few of us were at PLF this morning Bill, the field is free of snow and in great shape. Needs some weeding done on the gravel runway though, I might tackle that tomorrow as I am going there again. The pilot stations are still under the tarp where me and Dave left them, and I think I'll leave those alone for the next couple weeks until we're sure the winter weather is beyond us.

OK Colin, glad to hear that your hanging out there. Appreciate the update.
Maybe I'll pick up something to knock down those weeds.

Thanks for the help in protecting last year's build items.

It was a bright sunny day...perfect weather for a "towjob"...so today we "got 'er done"...!

The "new" HEFA storage container was delivered to the PLF. Next step will be to have a permanent site prepared for it.

..update..

The newly acquired trailer has been positioned alongside the field at Porters Lake.

We are hoping to have a work-party day possibly Saturday May 25th.

It's important to plan our attack on what items we wish to address first.

We have interior work to be done....involving installing some 2 x 4 studs, insulation, and covering..(drywall or paneling)....cordless saw and drills would be an asset.

Exterior painting would be desirable......a couple of gallons of something dark....if anyone has a contribution.

..more later,

Bill

I don't know how big the floor is or what you were planning to put down but I have about four or five boxes of tiles that you could have. They seem to be fairly heavy. They were given to me free as left over from a larger commercial job,
