NS International Air Show Parade Float
Ever wonder what happened to the model Spitfire that used to be in the NS Tattoo, and then stored in F Hangar at Shearwater? Well, wonder no more, because here it is. The folks involved with promoting the NS International Air Show acquired it and made some changes. I believe before the changes were made, it had the British camo colours. These folks did a great job cleaning it up and giving it a new paint job that reflects the Canadian version. The Nova Scotia Community College also worked on it, making some modifications.
Here are some pictures that a friend sent me.
Enjoy,
Andrew C
PS.. Any suggestions for an electric motor? ... lol

They did a great job from the looks of the pics.
ITS A "BUMPY SPIT" ...don't like the look of the bumps at the top edge of the cowling they had to add for the bigger Griffon engine. I prefer the earlier Merlin versions...more sleek look.

Even the new monsters from Turnigy would have serious problems huffing that sucker around Andrew...Ghost Flyer wrote:PS.. Any suggestions for an electric motor? ... lol

Re: NS International Air Show Parade Float
there was an article in the herald a few weeks back on the restoration of this model. Credit given to NSCC etc, but no mention of the original builder, long time modeler Arrie Hakkert (I think I spelled that correctly). Arrie is no longer with us, but he was a talented modeler and would be remembered by some of the senior (as in aged) modelers in this area.

Although I won't qualify for senior discounts for another 15 years or so, I have fond memories of Arie (and Smitty and Grant Beaver and a couple others) from my brief RC dabblings in the late 70s. My recollection is of an amiable, thoughtful, playful character with some passions thrown in. I probably even have some photos of Arie's planes from a show held at the Rebecca Cohn; I remember a gorgeous yellow Harvard and have a fuzzy recollection it was his.
Although I appreciate this beauty is a monster static model, it sure would be neat to see a midget spit flying demos on the Red Bull circuit.
It's nice to know this is Arie's work, thanks for pointing it out!

I believe that Bill or Chris will be needing this motor, someday! Hmmm..... I wonder what the ESC looks like that would match that?Dirt Torpedo wrote:Even the new monsters from Turnigy would have serious problems huffing that sucker around Andrew...Ghost Flyer wrote:PS.. That motor requires a 250A ESC and draws 17A idle current. Here's to Bill with a 500% scale Stryker on 16S20000...
Weighing 5.6 lbs, the motor alone iss almost over the field weight limit, so all you could do is toss it around it at Shannon.

I saw one of those motors on an ultralight at oshkosh. no kidding. and similar, though larger on the full size electric planes there. speed controllers were about a cubic foot in size.
