Weekend - July 29/30, 2017

I hope that everyone who went to AVON had as much fun as we did at SP this morning. Incredible morning. Light winds. Warm but also a nice sea breeze at times. Good turnout with roughly 10 flyers at the field and some interest from a few people passing by the field. Some great stick time completely soloing for John F as well with some fantastic landings!

Thanks to Andrew for his guidance with the glider and for spotting for me. I had my Radian in the air and there were lots of thermals. I am attaching a quick graph with the altitude vs. battery voltage. You can see when the motor is operating due to the voltage dips and it slowly recovers when the motor is disengaged. I had to force the Radian out of the thermals as it was getting too high.

Hopefully tomorrow will be another great day...!

Avon was fantastic too. Almost no wind. Lots of planes, big and small, gas and electric. Adam and I flew several times. Great field, great time.

I never crash, I just create exciting ways to meet the ground. After all, take-offs are desirable, landings are inevitable.

GREAT to hear, Bruce. Indeed, AVON's field is one of the best around.

Just wanted found another telemetry reader... but "more of the same". What I like about this graph is that the timebase is in minutes. You'll see that the motor was not turned on from the 5:00min mark. Lots of great thermals. Could have stayed up a LOT longer. Great experience.

Very interesting plot.
That's a good thermal when you can climb to 1000 ft from 300 ft. I had a couple of good thermal flights at Avon but nothing compared to Brian's thermals.
Were you going on vario data? The Radian is no slouch on thermalling.
