Victoria Day Weekend - May 20/21/22
Definitely windy again today. I was at SP at 8:30am and winds were very high. Unlike yesterday, when there were still upwards of 12 "keeners" at the field and some flights of planes and quadcopters were able to be enjoyed, today was empty (and for good reason!).
Anyone else able to share their experiences? Did I just arrive during a momentary bluster???
Tomorrow looks like the day. See you then!!!

Great crowd today amid great weather..!
Too bad about that tree that jumped out in front of Lou's Bonanza ...this will take several winter evenings to repair, but he's up to the challenge and swears it will fly again.
We are hopeful that another field lease extension will come through before June 30th....should have an answer soon.

Re: Victoria Day Weekend - May 20/21/22
It was an INCREDIBLE day. Huge turnout - didn't count the cars but I would suggest that there were at least 20 vehicles in the parking area - and great conditions. Conditions went from no winds to "some winds" to no winds again. Well deserved!!! A few maidens and a few unfortunate incidents - all repairable.
Two training flights - one with Ivan (progressing!) and one as an introduction to the hobby to the two (former) Syrian boys (15 and soon to be 12 yrs old) who happened to stop at the field on their bikes. There was certainly a language barrier and there were some struggles even in "easy/beginner" mode with the Apprentice, but I believe that the smiles afterwards said a lot. Another pilot at the line would have potentially helped to keep their fingers moving at the right amounts and not overcorrecting.
Some video to follow....

Thanks for the pics and video Brian. The landing was a little rough but I'll take it for a maiden.

Another video of some of the field - very late in the day when only three of use were left.... music is not the best but easy to silence

Sorry to have missed all the fun this morning. I worked all day but did manage to slip down to SP after 6 pm to fly a few packs on my heli and my SU-29MM.
Brian, two boys on bikes matching your description showed up not long after I started flying. They stayed and watched the whole time (from behind the pit area). When I was finished I asked them if they had ever seen model aircraft flying up close. They smiled and nodded. I would say you've got them hooked.

Neat video Brian but couldn't we edit out the crappy landing that ended upside down in the dandelions?
