CANCELLED ..! LARGE Scale Fiberglas Floats

Unread post by retiredVTT » Sat Nov 05, 2016 4:47 pm

..another item from a senior HEFA member who is leaving the hobby: (and No, it's not Chris Dean who is leaving the hobby..! He is in the photos to show the size of the floats..!)

These Fiberglas Floats are 44.5 inches long and have the SEA COMMANDER brand on them. They were purchased some years ago, to go on a Unionville 8 foot Beaver kit, at a reported cost of $400.00

They are unused, with an asking price of $150.00

Trevor, tell me the overall length of your Stinson, and I can tell you if they would work....I know the formula..!

http://www.swarms.org.au/hintstips/howtobuildfloats.htm

This old article by a guy who knew what he was talking about suggests the float be at least 75% the length of the fuselage..with the fuselage being measured from just behind the prop. So allowing 4" for the spinner and prop...75% of say 64" = 48". So these floats would be roughly 3.5" shorter than recommended. They would better suit a fuselage length of 60" or 5 feet.

They were purchased to go on a DE Havilland Beaver model with an 8 foot wing, which does have a shorter fuselage length than your Stinson.

(I have changed the title of this thread from "1/4 Scale Floats" to "Large Scale Floats" because the original Beaver had a wingspan of 15 meters, or nearly 49 feet, so a 1/4 model wing would be over 12 feet long.)
