2019 Aero Design
Hi Friends,
Figure id keep the tradition of posting the design project every year. I am on internship this year so didnt participate in the design aspect as much. More so doing the manufacturing and flying of the aircraft this year. Anyhow, if anyone was wondering the plane last year turned out to be wayyyyy too heavy and in tern crashed many many times... 4/6 flights it had lol
Moving forward! i have attached the report from this year and the DRAMATIC rule change as well! Happy Reading!
I will also spam the thread with pictures of the build which is quickly coming along as we leave on the 5th of march!!!!!

I'm glad to see that the power system is finally electric Gary It's interesting that you can use essentially any motor, 6S battery (over 3000 mAh) and ESC but that everyone has to use a 1000w power limiter. You will definitely want to optimize your choice of motor, ESC and prop. You must have chosen your components already however given the short time left?

Yea the motor and esc combo was the first thing we did as it provided the thrust numbers eliminating a major variable in the rest of the calculation. We are using a fms 300kv motor with either a 14 x 10 or 16x 8. Oh also the Watt limit is 750 watts not 1000. We are waiting to receive the limiter to decide how we want to plan the watts as on full charge the 14 x10 will pull around 750 watts at 6600 rpm for about 30 secs then it starts dropping. The 16 in prop will spin to 1000 watts at full charge and similar rpm (hence more thrust) but level off to 750 -800 watts as the battery deplete. If we can ride the limiter at 750 Watt cutoff then we will use the larger 16 as it will give us a longer average at 750 watts and as the prop unwinds we should get even more dynamic thrust and less watts. (Hope that blurb made sense )

Few more hours of work went in today! Tail interface was attatched and glued in. Alot of adjusting and trimming to get that to fit night and square. Controls team started to run the wires for the plane! alot of wires for alot of servos! they did a great job of keeping the wires neat and tidy this year which is great! Carrier bay doors monokoted today and got started making the other doors for all the multiple hatches front and rear as well! moving slowing but surely!Drop mechanism has also been tested for the first time too!

It's definitely getting there Gary but still a long way to go!
What do you expect that the total weight RTF is going to be?
