Turbo Raven model from SEAGULL

I've had this model from SEAGULL products (made in Vietnam) for at least three years now, nestled under my work bench, so it was time to get-er-done..!

Not a great deal of info on this model but the info I did find, raised some interesting facts; like the CG being stated in the wrong position, and the models electric power data being wholly inadequate for this plane (a 4S lipo pack and a 10/7 prop was just not going to cut it..!)

Upon examining the model two features stood out as requiring immediate attention...the large battery hatch on top of the fuselage was BOLTED on with two hex head bolts. Obviously this was done for those that would use a glow or gas engine to power the model, this would need to be changed for electric power use.
The second feature was less drastic, but in keeping with the scale appearance of the model, the short legged landing gear would need replacing.

The landing gear issue was quickly fixed as I had this long legged carbon fibre gear, also kicking around for a couple years, that I pressed into service for an awesome look..!

The hatch issue took a bit of thought, before the easy answer jumped out to me. It was just a matter of removing the two blind nuts from the inside of the hatch tabs, and adding a small plywood spacer plus gluing on two super magnets. Now when I insert the bolts into the holes in the fuselage...they promptly snap into place..!

Flying weight will be around 8 pounds, so a 60 size motor, 100 amp esc, and 6S power will be used.

Couple of nice features...a battery plate that is screwed into place, and a servo tray that bolts into place. This allows the tray to be removed for servo installation and then reinstalled, a nice feature.

The manual suggested "gluing" the electric motorbox to the factory installed firewall...I choose to BOLT the two together and used the blind nuts that were already installed in the firewall...I just reversed them and used them inside the electric motorbox.

Aligning the horiz stab with the wing tube.....wow, that's a big rudder-fin...front cowl has a shark effect..!

Looks nice Bill.
One thing you may want to check is the landing gear mount plate. Seagull does the bare minimum. The two I had needed legs replaced (as you did) and re-glue the mounting plates.
However, Seagull does make nice flying models.

10/4 Marc, I think I'll hit it with the Poly-U-glue and let it foam into all corners...thanks for the reminder..!
I am impressed with the quality of the Seagull product and will be watching for other models.

And triangle stock along the landing gear plate to spread the load if there's room. Better now than to fix things later. lol, Landing gear coming off an ARF on a reasonable landing? never. lol

...more progress; ..added the triangle stock, a touch of spruce, with a small side order of oak, and stirred in some gorilla polyurethane glue, to reinforce the landing gear plate. Went with a larger 2.75 inch diameter wheel, mounted the pants, and hooked up the dual elevator control rods.
